China CFDA Releases Testing Methods for Determination of Vanillin in Infant Foods

Two supplementary food testing methods have been released including the determination of vanillin, ethyl vanillin, chlorate and perchlorate in various kinds of foods.

On May 31, 2017, China CFDA approved two supplementary food testing methods in accordance with “Provisions for Supplementary Food Testing Methods” (see CL report on Jan. 3, 2017), which became effective upon the announcement.

These two supplementary food testing methods are mainly used for:

  • Determination of vanillin and ethyl vanillin in liquid milk, single cream, infant formula (excluding infant formula foods for special medical use), cereal-based complementary foods for infants and young children, grain processed products, vegetable oil and fat, etc.
  • Determination of chlorate and perchlorate in drinking water, liquid milk, carrot, honey-dew melon, pork, fish, tea, infant formula (excluding infant formula foods for special medical use), etc.
