India Publishes Amendments to Food Standards and Additives Regulations

On April 16, 2015, India published three amendments including Food Safety and Standards (Lecithin) (Amendment) Regulations, 2011, Food Safety and Standards (Contaminants, Toxins and Residues) (Amendment) Regulations, 2014, and Food Safety and Standards (Food Standards and Food Additives (Amendment) Regulations, 2015.

The main changes include:

  • Lecithin has been approved to be used in biscuits as food additive and relevant application standard has been revised accordingly.

  • The contaminants, toxins and residual level of all varieties of foods have been amended.

  • The application standard of stevioside in all varieties of foods has been revised.
