New Food Safety (Registration and License) Regulations 2026 Issued in Bangladesh

Bangladesh has introduced a five-tier food registration and licensing framework that separates business, premises, product manufacturing/import, and brand-packaging approvals for defined food categories. The new regulations also replace the corresponding covered provisions of the 1967 Pure Food Rules, creating a standalone compliance regime for regulated food activities and special-category products.

On July 16, 2026, the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA) issued the Safe Food (Registration and Licensing) Regulations, 2026. The Regulations took effect immediately and establish five distinct registration and licensing controls, the applicability of which depends on the food business activity and product category concerned. Upon their entry into force, the provisions of the Pure Food Rules, 1967 that concern matters covered by these Regulations become inapplicable.
