- Beginning march 1st 2017, lutein and nucleotide concentrations in all infant formula imported or produced domestically will be tested by Chinese authorities as part of the new infant formula sampling inspection items.
According to the “Implementation Rules for National Food Safety Supervision Sampling Inspection” released last month (see CL news report on Feb. 24, 2017), which also includes the requirements for infant formula sampling inspection, lutein and nucleotides will be part of the new inspection items from March 2017.
Currently, there are 62 testing items for infant formula aged from 0-6 months and 52 testing items for formula for older infants and young children aged from 6-36 months including melamine. The testing will be carried out in accordance with “GB 5009.248-2016 National Food Safety Standard Determination of Lutein in Foods” and “GB 5413.40-2016 National Food Safety Standard Determination of Nucleotide in Infant Formula and Dairy Products”.
The sampling method will involve selection of 8 individual minimum sales packages which will be sampled from a single batch. The inspection should assess a volume not less than 2kg.
