Singapore Revises Veterinary Conditions for Importing Chilled Poultry and Poultry Products

Singapore Food Agency amends the shelf-life requirement and removes the specific type of packaging from the additional veterinary conditions for the importation of poultry and poultry products.

On August 30, 2022, Singapore Food Agency (SFA) issued a revision of the additional veterinary conditions for the importation of poultry and poultry products. The amendment mainly involves the shelf-life and packaging requirements.

  1. The shelf life of chilled poultry and poultry products is changed to “at least 10 days at ≤ 4 °C” from the date of packing, comparing to the previous requirement of “at least 14 days at ≤ 4 °C”.

  2. The authority removes the specific type of packaging from the additional veterinary conditions to provide better flexibility for the industry to determine the best leak-proof packaging.

Apart from the requirements mentioned above, in Singapore, the sources of chilled poultry and poultry products must be granted SFA approval. Besides, the meat cannot be treated with chemical preservatives or other substances injurious to health.
