[Updated] Taiwan Food Ingredients Updates in 2026

Taiwan has introduced specific use restrictions for a food ingredient mixture of 2’-Fucosyllactose and Difucosyllactose produced by fermentation using a genetically modified E. coli strain. Products containing this ingredient mixture must also follow mandatory labeling rules that identify its production using genetically modified microorganisms.

On June 24, 2026, the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) released the Use Restrictions and Labeling Requirements of 2ʹ-Fucosyllactose/Difucosyllactose Mixture Produced by Genetically Modified Escherichia coli Strain K-12 DH1 MDO MAP1001d as a Food Ingredient (hereinafter the Standards). The Standards covers the specifications, restrictions, and labeling requirements for this specific food ingredient mixture. The Standards came into effect immediately on the date of its announcement.
