Japan Revises "Outline of Imported Food Prior Confirmation System"

On June 29, 2021, Japan Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare (MHLW) released an amendment for the Outline of Imported Food Prior Confirmation System (hereinafter referred to as the Outline). The Outline spells out the application scope, the content of the prior confirmation, the application procedures for prior confirmation, the validity period of registration, the import procedures, and some other requirements. The prior confirmation system came into effect on March 29, 1994, and the amendment became effective upon its publication on June 29.

Japan Revises the Maximum Residue Limits of Four Pesticides and Veterinary Drugs

On June 25, 2021, Japan MHLW announced to revise the maximum residue limits (MRLs) of 4 pesticides and veterinary drugs, including Dichloroisocyanuric acid, Dyflumetofen, Tiadinil and Thiencarbazone-methyl. The changes came into effect after the promulgation.

Labeling Requirements of Foods for Special Dietary Uses in Japan

"Regarding permission for labeling of Foods for special dietary uses (hereinafter referred to as "FOSDU")" was partially revised on November 17, 2020. With this revision, procedures of written-document submission can now be carried out online (via e-mail) for what is possible instead of in writing. FOSDU are foods with the mark below. Currently, 68 labeling cases for FOSDU have been permitted. Considering 18 permitted in the past two years (2019-2020), it seems that FOSDU have become more familiar.
