Japan Rejects 58 Batches of Imported Food in September 2021

Japan Rejects 59 Batches of Imported Food in August 2021

According to the latest MHLW notification, 59 batches of food products imported from 17 countries/regions were found non-compliant in August 2021. The violation of food and additive standards was the main cause.

Japan Revises the Standards for Food and Food Additives

On Aug. 31, 2021, Japan MHLW announced to revise the residue limits of six pesticides, one veterinary drug, and one feed additive stipulated in the "Standards and Criteria for Food and Food Additives, etc. ". They are Kasugamycin, Chloropicrin, Trenbolone Acetate, Butylated hydroxytoluene, Validamycin, Fenpropathrin, Prochloraz, 1-methylcyclopropene. In addition, the implementation date for the raised maximum amount is August 31, 2021, while for the reduced maximum amount is August 31, 2022.

Japan CAA Unveils FAQ for Plant-based Meat Labeling

Recently, plant-based meat headed by "soy meat" (made from soybeans) and "oats milk"(made from oats) are popular with many consumers for being considered more healthier and environmental friendly, and the market is gradually expanding. However, many labeling problems have risen correspondingly. To regulate the labeling of plant-based meat, CAA publicly answered questions related to product labeling of plant-based meat for the first time on August 20, 2021.

[Updated] Japan Updates Food Composition Standard Tables

On December 25, 2020, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan released the amendment to the Standard Tables of Food Composition in Japan-(Eighth Revised Version) (from now on "Standard Tables"), which mainly subdivided the carbohydrates, changed the energy calculation method, and enriched the information on prepared food. Besides, the number of listed food has increased by 287, now amounting to 2,478.

Japan Rejects 71 Batches of Imported Food in July 2021
Aug 10, 2021
According to the MHLW notification, 71 batches of food products imported from 23 countries/regions were found non-compliant in July 2021. Frozen food, fresh food and seasoning accounted for the majority of the overall rejection, representing 40.8%, 8.4% and 8.4% respectively. All these unqualified products were returned or destroyed.
