China to Revise Labeling Requirements for Prepackaged Foods

GB 7718 National Food Safety Standard General Standard for the Labeling of Prepackaged Foods is the overarching regulation for the standardization of food labeling in China, which is of great importance to domestic enterprises as well as overseas food enterprises. China National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment (CFSA) announced on Apr. 12, 2017 that the current 2011 version of GB 7718 will be revised in the near future.

China CFDA Adds New Requirements for Complementary Foods for Infants and Young Children

On Apr. 11, 2017, China CFDA released supplementary requirements for production licensing of complementary foods for infants and young children in accordance with the 2017 version of “Detailed Rules for Production License Examination for Complementary Foods for Infants and Young Children” (see CL news report on Feb. 7, 2017). The production licensing of complementary foods for infants and young children will be strictly regulated by the government.

Polish Liqueur Detained at Wenzhou Port due to Illegal Addition of Gold Foil

Overall 233 boxes or 1,153 liters of liqueur exported from Poland were detained at Wenzhou port recently because they contained gold foil, which is currently not permitted for use in food production in China.

China Suspends Meat Importation from Brazil

It was revealed by Brazilian police recently that major meat producers bribed health inspectors to certify tainted meat as fit for consumption.
