Taiwan to Revise Regulations for Application of Health Food Registration

The amendment involves the registration review rules, document requirements and online platforms. Any feedback can be submitted within 60 days from October 20, 2023.

Taiwan Amends Food Additive Standards

On August 10, 2023, Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) revises Standards for Specification, Scope, Application and Limitation of Food Additives. Key changes include adding new approved scope of and application standards for Activated Acid Clay, revising additives’ names, and updating the specifications of several additives. These amendments will come into effect on January 1, 2024.

Taiwan Updates Residue Limits for Pesticides in Food and Animal Products

The changes mainly include the addition, revision and deletion of pesticide residue limits. The amendment took effect on the date of promulgation.

Taiwan Amends the Residue Limits of 19 Pesticides in Foods

On February 17, 2023, Taiwan Food and Drug Administration released an amendment to Standards for Pesticide Residue Limits in Foods. The revision involves Appendix Table 1 of Article 3, in which 19 types of pesticides are added or amended, covering 107 maximum residue limit items. This amendment took effect on the date of promulgation.

On February 14, 2023, Taiwan unveiled the Principles Dealing with Advertisements for Infant and Follow-up Formula (hereinafter referred to as the Principles), which clarifies the advertisements definition and online sales for infant formula, follow-up infant formula, and infant formula for special medical purposes designed for consumers under the age of one. The Principles are supplementary administrative rules instead of regulatory orders, which became effective on the date of the announcement.

Taiwan Bans the Use of Eucalyptus Globulus as Food Raw Materials

On February 8, 2023, Taiwan Food and Drug Administration issued the Restrictions on the Use of Eucalyptus globulus and its Extracts (hereinafter referred to as the Restrictions). According to the Restrictions, Eucalyptus globulus and its extracts cannot be used as food raw materials. The restrictions will take effect on January 1, 2024.

[Updated] Taiwan Removes the Use Restrictions of 2′-FL on Infant Formula for Special Medical Purposes

On September 20, 2022, Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) consulted on the amendment to the use restriction of 2′-fucosyllactose (2′-FL) produced by genetically modified Escherichia coli strain K-12 DH1 MDO MAP1001d (hereinafter referred to as “E. coli K-12 MAP1001d”) and genetically modified Escherichia coli strain BL21 (DE3) #1540 (hereinafter referred to as “E. coli BL21 (DE3) #1540”). Any comments on the drafts shall be returned within 60 days since September 20, 2022.
