Philippines Adopts New Dietary Standards for Prepackaged Processed Foods

On September 7, 2023, the Philippines FDA issued FDA Circular No.2023-009, announcing to adopt the 2015 Philippine Dietary Reference Intakes (PDRI) Percent Recommended Energy Intakes/Recommended Nutrient Intakes (%REI/RNI) as the new dietary standard for all prepackaged processed foods. This move repeals Bureau Circular No. 16 s. 2005, which previously adopted the 2002 Recommended Energy and Nutrient Intakes (RENI) as the dietary standard.

On April 12, 2021, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) issued ASEAN General Guideline on Food Contact Materials and ASEAN Guidelines for Good Manufacturing Practice for Food Contact Materials. These guidelines provide vital references for ASEAN countries in regulating FCMs. Some ASEAN countries, including Thailand and Indonesia, have made strides in improving their FCM regulations and monitoring. Philippines Launches a New Round of Consultation on Amended Requirements for LTO Application

Philippines FDA released a new draft of Updated Guidelines on the Application for License to Operate of Health Product Establishments with the Food and Drug Administration (the Updated Guidelines). Compared with two previous drafts, the newly released amendment introduces stricter guidelines for initial, renewal and variation applications for the LTO, detailing the circumstances under which the LTO may be cancelled, and strengthens the requirements for the Qualified Person.
