Investigation Opened into Suspected Fake Milk Powder from Lithuania

Lithuanian police recently seized 18,000 boxes of counterfeit Aptamil milk powder (the equivalent of 11 tons) , triggering immediate investigation into its potential circulation in the Chinese market, a major destination of milk powder exported from Lithuania.

China Dairy Imports Grew by 21.4% in 2016

On Feb. 13, 2017, it was reported by the Ministry of Agriculture of China (MOA) in “Monthly Analysis of the Situation of Agricultural Product Demand and Supply (Jan. 2017)” that the total import volume of dairy products in 2016 was 1,955,600 tons, representing an increase of 21.4% compared to 2015.

China Announces Dairy Industry Development Roadmap

On Jan. 9, 2017, five ministries and commissions of China including MOA, NDRC, MIIT, MOFCOM and CFDA jointly announced “National Dairy Industry Development Plan (2016-2020)” in accordance with the overarching regulation for dairy products “Regulations on Supervision and Administration of the Quality and Safety of Dairy products”, which recognizes the important position of the dairy industry in China’s overall food safety system, and also identifies the main tasks for dairy industry development over the next several years.

China CNCA Suspends Australian Dairy Manufacturer Viplus Dairy

China CNCA updated the list of approved overseas infant formula manufacturers and dairy manufacturers on 4 November. On November 4th Australian dairy manufacturer Viplus Dairy had their CNCA accreditation suspended, which means their dairy products including infant formula cannot be exported to China until the problem is fixed and re-accreditation granted by CNCA.

China Approves the Registration of 16 Lithuanian Dairy Manufacturers

On Aug. 23, 2016, the Certification and Accreditation Administration of China (CNCA) announced the registration of 16 Lithuanian dairy manufacturers, meaning that these 16 enterprises have been authorized to export dairy products to China. This is the first time that Lithuanian dairy enterprises have been approved and registered with CNCA.
