On March 15, 2015, China Food and Drug Administration released the “Administrative Measures for Food Recall”, which will be formally implemented from Sep. 1, 2015.
Once unsafe foods are discovered in the market, they should be recalled by the manufacturers and traders strictly according to the recall time limits set by the government.
Level I: The foods that pose significant risk of death or other serious deleterious health effects have after consumption should be recalled within 24 hours after a food safety risk has been identified. The recall should be finished within 10 working days.
Level II: The foods that pose general health risks after consumption should be recalled within 48 hours after a food safety risk has been realized. The recall should be finished within 20 working days.
Level III: The foods with false labeling information should be recalled within 72 hours after being identified. The recall should be finished within 30 working days.
Level IV: Foods found to contain non-food substances, contaminated substances, or dead livestock and poultry that are harmful for the human health and safety should be destroyed immediately.
