Market movements

1.    3 food for special medical purposes (FSMP) were approved, 2 by Nestle and 1 by Abbott (CL previous report).
2.    China imported 69.4 tons of bird's nest in H1, and ready-to-eat bird's nest accounted for 60%.
3.    African beef officially entered China for the first time: 15.08 tons of beef were exported from Namibia to Tianjin.
4.    JD.com is now selling “amino VITAL“ manufactured by Japanese supplement powerhouse Ajinomoto

5.    Coca-Cola company is now selling a tea drink “绫鹰" (Lingying) manufactured by one of its Japanese subsidiaries on its Tmall shop.

6.    Danish Mille will launch a new infant formula “至萃"(Zhicui).
7.    Yili Jinlingguan launched a new organic infant formula "塞纳牧"(Sainamu).

8.    Nestle opened a bricks and mortar Italian Gelato ice cream store in Shanghai.
9.    Guanshengyuan & Bright dairy are collaborating on the launch of a candy flavor milk emblazoned with the iconic White Rabbit.

Regulatory compliance

1.    Good news for international stakeholders as China GAC will launch a new pilot program in 6 local customs bureaus to assess the feasibility of rolling out an expedited “two-step declaration” customs clearance on a national level.
2.    China approved 11 new food additives, including soluble soybean polysaccharide (CL previous report).
3.    China approved 8 new varieties of food-related products, including sodium acetate (CL previous report).
4.    76 batches of food were rejected at ports by Chinese customs officials in June  (CL previous report).
5.    9 Vitamin and mineral supplements were granted health food filing approval in H1 2019 (CL previous report).
6.    China consults on special food registration Onsite inspection requirements (CL previous report).
7.    “La Tourangelle” branded complementary baby food sold in China tests positive for DEHP (CL previous report).

Company dynamics

1.    The a2 Milk Company signed a contract with JD for in-depth strategic cooperation.
2.    Ausnutria acquired Nutriunion to expand on its nutritionals business.
3.    FIRMUS plans to list in Hong Kong, its prospectus disclosed over 2.2 billion Yuan net profit in 2018.
4.    Mars invested $45 million to build a new production line in Jiaxing, Zhejiang.
5.    SIG Combibloc Group invested 180m euros to build a second production site in China.
6.    PepsiCo to acquire stake in China’s Natural Foods for $131m, the second largest natural food producer in China by retail sales.
 

H1 revenue

1.    Beingmate expects to record a net loss of between 110 to 150 million Yuan in 2019.
2.    Ausnutria dairy’s revenue is expected to reach 3.148 billion Yuan, with a year-on-year growth of about 21.9%.
3.    Danone reported revenue of 12.648 billion euros, up 1.7% from a year earlier.
4.    By-health reached 2.97 billion Yuan, up 36.88% year-on-year.
5.    Nestle Greater China’s revenue clocked in at 23.3 billion Yuan. Its condiments and ice cream businesses had good growth. 
6.    Yonghui superstores reported revenue in excess of 40 billion Yuan, up nearly 20% from the previous year.
