China’s NHC Issues 2019 National Food Safety Standard Project Plan

Standards for food additives, GMP and some test methods are proposed to be revised/formulated. 57 standards in total are included in this plan, 28 are new standards.

On Aug. 12th, 2019, National Health Commission (NHC) issued its national standards revision and formulation plan [1]. Totally, there are 57 standards involved.


Earlier on May 22nd, 2019, NHC opened the draft version of 2019 national food safety standard formulation plan to public feedback [2]. At that time, 81 national standards were proposed to be formulated or revised [3].

Compared to the draft version, the standards for nutrition and special dietary food (9 items), specifications of nutritional fortification substance (15 items) are removed from the list. For example, standards aim at sports nutrition (GB 13432-2013, GB 24154-2015), FSMP (nutritionally complete formula), special food labeling, popular food additives ARA, DHA, GOS are not listed in the approval plan.
