Korea Approves Two New Food Raw Materials

On Mar. 9, 2016, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety of Korea (MFDS) announced the revision of “Korea Food Code” for the approval of tenebrio molitor and gryllus bimaculatus as new food raw materials, which was put into practice on the day of announcement.
On Mar. 9, 2016, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety of Korea (MFDS) announced the revision of “Korea Food Code” for the approval of tenebrio molitor and gryllus bimaculatus as new food raw materials, which was put into practice on the day of announcement.
Tenebrio molitor and gryllus bimaculatus have been added into the approved food raw material directory with extended safety application scope. The limits on heavy metals are specified as below:
Tenebrio molitor

Gryllus bimaculatus

Lead ≤ 0.1mg/kg
Cadmium ≤ 0.05mg/kg
Arsenic ≤ 0.1mg/kg

Cadmium ≤ 0.3mg/kg
