When designed well, EPR offers the opportunity to transform how we manage packaging waste for recycling. The key is setting enforceable performance targets to align all stakeholders to invest and continuously improve the system. In this way, EPR does much more than just shift who pays for the program.

Hong Kong Proposes to Ban CBD Products within 2022

According to a industry media, Hong Kong Security Bureau submitted a paper to the Hong Kong Legislative Council in June, proposing to list CBD (cannabidiol) under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance (Ordinance) in 2022. If the paper is passed, Hong Kong will ban the manufacture, supply, import, export, transshipment, sale and possession of CBD-containing products (including CBD cosmetics).

Canada Mandates Food Front-of-package Nutrition Labeling

On June 30, 2022, Health Canada introduced new nutrition labelling regulations for packaged foods, which require to indicate a symbol on the front of packages (FOP) indicating if a food is high in saturated fat, sugars and/or sodium. The regulations will come into effect on July 20, 2022. A grace period will be given for the industry to make changes until January 1, 2026.
