Japan Releases the Japanese Agricultural Standards for Milled Rice and Organic Algae

On December 7, 2021, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan (MAFF) issued a notice that the “Japanese Agricultural Standards for Milled Rice” and “Japanese Agricultural Standards for Organic Algae” were established. The standards will become effective on January 6, 2022.

Japan Rejects 83 Batches of Imported Food in November 2021

According to the latest MHLW notification, 83 batches of food products imported from 23 countries/regions were found non-compliant in November 2021. Agricultural products account for the largest proportion of the non-compliant imported food. The main reason for rejection was the violation of food and additive standards.

19 Types of Food are Exempted from Manufacturing License in Japan

On November 18, 2021, Japan MHLW released an amendment for “Ordinance for Enforcement of the Food Sanitation Act”. According to the amendment, 19 types of foods are newly added as designated food, for which has no need to obtain a sealed packaged food manufacturing industry license.

Japan Revises the Residue Limits of Three Pesticides in Food

As revealed by the amendments released on Oct. 19, 2021, Japan MHLW officially revised the maximum residue limits (MRLs) of three pesticides, including Tolfenpyrad, Fenquinotrione, and Flazasulfuron. The amendments came into effect immediately after the promulgation.
