China
On July 29, 2024, China National Health Commission (NHC) issued the finalized version of the national food safety standard legislation plan for 2024. The plan includes 35 food standards. Compared to the draft version, two standards for food additives—gellan gum and nickel—have been newly added. Additionally, one standard from the draft plan, concerning the determination of theanine in tea leaves in food, has been removed in the final version. On July 19, 2024, Thailand Food and Drug Administration (FDA) unveiled Ministry of Public Health Notification (No. 450) on the Labeling of Prepackaged Food (hereinafter MOPH Notification No. 450), which replaced MOPH Notification No. 367 on the Labeling of Prepackaged Food and its three amendment notifications (MOPH No. 383, No. 401 and No. 420). The new labeling regulation became effective starting from July 19, 2024, with a two-year grace period for food stakeholders to make preparation.

The compliance date for this rule is one year after the effective date, to provide the opportunity for companies to reformulate, relabel, and deplete the inventory of BVO-containing products.
