[Updated] China Consults on the Labeling Guideline of Foods for Special Medical Purposes, Involving the Use of FSMP Logo

On November 7, 2022, State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) released an exposure draft of Guidelines for the Label of Foods for Special Medical Purposes (hereafter referred to as Guidelines). The authority summarizes labeling requirements in the current laws, regulations, normative documents and national food safety standards and makes them more practical with detailed explanations and instances. Comments can be sent to tsspsypzcc@samr.org.cn before November 25, 2022.

China to Revise GB 29922 General Rules for Foods for Special Medical Purposes

On December 2, 2022, China Nutrition and Health Food Association (CNHFA) unveiled the exposure draft of GB 29922, which applies to foods for special medical purposes (FSMP) of consumers over one year old. It covers nutritionally complete foods, specific nutritionally complete foods, and nutritionally incomplete foods. The revisions mainly involve the subcategories of three product types, labels and technical requirements. Any feedback can be sent to regulation@cnhfa.org.cn before December 14, 2022.

According to the comparative table of the prior and amended article provisions, the application scope of re-permitted FOSHU, the marking requirement for mandatory labeling, and the application documents of FOSHU have been modified.
