China Proposes Four New Food Raw Materials, Involving Dairy Products [Historical Resources Included]

This article collects the latest and historically proposed food raw materials opened for public comments in China.

Permitted food raw materials in China are from two main sources: conventional food raw materials and new food raw materials approved by National Health Commission (NHC). This article collects the latest and historically proposed food raw materials to keep you up-to-date with the changes regarding Chinese food raw materials regulations.

Latest Update: January 12, 2023

As revealed by the notice on January 12, 2023, China National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment (CFSA) opened four new food raw materials for public comment. Any comments can be sent to [email protected] before February 12, 2023.

1. Milk and dairy products (liquid milk 0.8 g/kg; milk powder and its blended products are converted according to the liquid mass after mixing)

2. Beverages (liquid drink 0.8 g/kg; solid drink is converted according to the liquid mass after mixing)

3. Jelly, cocoa products, chocolate and chocolate products (including cocoa butter chocolate and its products) (14 g/kg)

4. Candy (40 g/kg)

5. Frozen drinks (8 g/kg)

6. Baked foods (4 g/kg)

7. Alcohol (4 g/kg)

≤ 800 mg/day

1. Infants and young children, pregnant women, women in lactation period should avoid taking foods containing this raw material.

2. The unsuitable group and the consumption limit should be marked on labels and instructions.

3. Quality specification and food safety indicators are included in the appendix of the notice.

Green Tea Catechins

Source plant: Camelliasinensis (L.) O. Ktze.

1. Beverages (0.6 g/kg; solid drink is converted according to the liquid mass after mixing)

2. Candy (0.2 g/kg)

1. Infants and young children, pregnant women, women in lactation period should avoid taking foods containing this raw material.
