India to Implement Regulations for Health Supplements and Nutraceuticals

On Dec. 23, 2016, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) notified the finalization of “Food Safety and Standards (Health Supplements, Nutraceuticals, Foods for Special Medical Purposes, Functional Foods and Novel Foods) Regulation, 2016”, which will be formally implemented from Jan. 1, 2018.

China Updates Maximum Residue Limits for Pesticides in Foods

The 2016 version of “GB2763-2016 Standard of Maximum Residue limits for Pesticide in Foods” has been released recently, and will be formally implemented from Jun. 18, 2017. Compared to the previous version, 490 pesticide MRLs have been newly added in this 2016 version, totaling 4140 pesticide MRLs of 433 types of pesticides in 13 categories of agricultural products.

China Announces Dairy Industry Development Roadmap

On Jan. 9, 2017, five ministries and commissions of China including MOA, NDRC, MIIT, MOFCOM and CFDA jointly announced “National Dairy Industry Development Plan (2016-2020)” in accordance with the overarching regulation for dairy products “Regulations on Supervision and Administration of the Quality and Safety of Dairy products”, which recognizes the important position of the dairy industry in China’s overall food safety system, and also identifies the main tasks for dairy industry development over the next several years.
